Chitorri graveyard is located in the Mirpur Khas district, about 22 kilometers northeast of Mirpur Khas town. First Talpur, who was buried in this graveyard, was Mir Masu Talpur. The tombs are made of sandstone. The Talpur rulers built them. The finest example of Sindh’s architecture is the Chitorri graveyard. That was built over their elders grave prevalent in the 17th and 18th centuries. These attractive shrines are a combination of Islamic and native Rajasthani architecture.

The Graveyard has aesthetic value. It is eye-catching and pleasing. There are many historical places and heritage sites to visit in this region, but this is one of the best. Renovation of old tombs has been done nicely. The history of the Kalhora and Talpur dynasties can be seen in this graveyard.

A large amount of Rajasthani stone came from India for these tombs. The Chitorri graveyard consists of twelve structures (four yellow carved stone canopies, five yellow carved stone tombs, and three burnt brick tombs). 

The graveyard belongs to the Talpur period (1783 – 1843 AD). Talpurs that hold known positions are buried in this graveyard. According to the grave keeper, Mir Masu Khan Talpur was the first Talpur Mir to be buried there. The site has also cultural value In the past Talpurs desired and they feel honored to be buried in chitorri.

Not only humans, but Peacocks also visit the site for a peaceful environment and do “zikr”.

Mir Fateh Talpur, who played a vital role in sustaining Sindh also sleeps in this graveyard. Several other martyrs from the Dubba Battle, which took place in 1843, are also buried here.

The culture department of the Government of Sindh restored and renovated this historical site. The Chitorri graveyard is an important historical and architectural site to visit for those in search of peace and calm. Also for the students who want to acquire more knowledge.
